Risk dollars first, units second. Your account times your risk percentage gives the dollars you're willing to lose on this play. Divide by the per-unit risk (price distance from entry to stop) and you have the position size in units. Multiply units by entry price for total notional.

risk_per_unit = |entry - stop|
units         = risk_amount / risk_per_unit
notional      = units * entry
